Sustainable Design for Healthy Communities
Worship Series at the Greater Denton Arts Council
In 2023, as part of their Thursday night community engagement series, the Greater Denton Arts Council hosted CVAD’s Fashion Design program for s series interactive workshop under the theme of Sustainable Design for Healthy Communities.
The workshops, organized by CVAD Fashion Design Assistant Professor Barbara Trippeer, allowed BFA and MFA fashion design students to engage with the community on sustainability education and methods of living better through mindful design.
The series, which engaged over 200 attendees, included workshops on natural dyeing, denim up-cycling, garment mending, fabric mosaics, and integrating plants into everyday design efforts.
The series engaged community members from all walks of life, as all ages were invited to participate.

The series culminated with the co-creation of an up-cycled garment with a range of colorful appliqués, embroidery, and fabric markers to embellish and add personal touches.
