Veil Bra Project
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Objective The role of Barbara Trippeer, as acting Design Research Consultant to assist the Fashion Institute of Technology in completion of their Veil Industry Partnership Project deliverables, by organizing and facilitating a prototype comfort study, wear test, and focus group, as well as completing an executive summary of the project through documentation, which includes both analysis and coding of data on behalf of both FIT and their Veil project partners. Goals The FIT/Veil Industry Project Partnership, which launched in Spring of 2018, set the following goals: 1.) Identify experts in the intimate apparel industry capable of collaborating, producing, and testing an innovative bra design which would include the Veil method of garment construction. 2.) The Veil method of bra garment construction seeks to replace traditional methods of bra manufacturing with additive manufacturing methods of production, utilizing designated domestic manufacturing partners. Many of these domestic partners needed guidance in order to re-tool their processes based on the needs of the Veil Project innovation requirements, and due to the fact that many traditional intimate apparel processes had since been reallocated to overseas manufacturing. 3.) Finalize 3D printed insert design support and final bra prototype, to enable sample production. 4.) Test finalized Veil bra prototype on industry professional fit models. 5.) Test finalized Veil bra prototype and components using FIT’s TDM labs to confirm all components pass testing for industry standards. 6.) Test finalized Veil bra prototype with everyday consumers through the use a Comfort Study Wear Test. 7.) Document findings from the Veil Comfort Study Wear Test and verify through the application of Focus Group sessions using eligible research participants. 8.) Analyze findings from all testing and execute a summary report of all materials for both FIT and their Veil Industry Partners.
